Ixus is an expansive goblin underworld empire that twist and turns through vast caverns and tunnels and navigating the complicated social and caste systems of the Ixians is even more confusing and treacherous if not done with caution and met with some luck. The Ixians are governed by a Goblin Emperor whose family has reigned for over a millennium. It is now the 3rd Golden Age of peace.

There were two hundred noble houses that assisted the Emperor defend and grow the empire from Dwarves, Humans, Elves, Spider race, Giants and 3 civil wars. The emperor skill fully played the houses against each other staying several steps ahead of them ensuring no house gained too much strength threatening the Throne or allowing any other house to take the seat. On three occasions a civil war was needed to reset the table of power and the overall number of goblins which threatened the finite number of resources. With each civil was reducing the number of noble houses and competitors to the rule the empire.

Guilds were created naturally by the common goblins to maximize efficiency and manage the development of the craft and the transfer from one generation to the next without losing the lessoned learned and resetting progress from generation to the next which happened frequently especially during the first civil war.

The Emperor saw the creation of Guilds to balance the power that several large noble houses were amassing and used the formal acknowledgment of the first guilds to avoid another civil war. This is where the first guilds were created (The Smiths, Miners, Farmers, Merchants). This only delayed the inevitable and within 50 years the second great civil war commenced.



After the second civil war the elder houses were reduced again, and the guilds gained more influenced. The Steam, MechWerx, Burner, the Bank. The bank guild provided a great deal of stability in the beginning smoothing out transactions and agreements between buyers and sellers and eventually becoming more sophisticated like stabilizing prices and providing insurance or bonds but soon greed took over and the guild became very powerful. With this newfound and immense wealth and the alliance with several of the stronger noble houses the third great civil war embarked. The emperor appealed directly to the commoners which rose up in mass and destroyed many of the great houses. After the rebellion was crushed the bank was left intact but taken over by the imperial family and many guilds were then created openly as a gift to the people but strategically created to divide the people again and to drive the populace into passivity through bureaucracy.
